Chye Seng Huat Hardware Coffee Bar

Cold brew & Old fashioned Banana cake

Had an afternoon high tea with Char at Chye Seng Huat hardware coffee bar.

The shop isn't very prominent with their old style shutter gates and tradition Chinese wooden signboard. Don't be fooled by it though, cause the entrance is actually at their back alley. Inside is a cozy area with baristas working their way with latte art in the centre. Cozy enough, but not for big groups.

What intrigued me was this cold brew in a sort of cough syrup glass bottle. Was it suppose to mean coffee is the remedy? So the cold brew only had their standard coffee beans. There was this unique sour taste to it which neither the milk nor syrup could cover. It's definitely not spoilt for that matter.

I'm not much of a coffee person so that sour taste is a first time for me. But I'll give thumbs up to it cause in my opinion it tasted good.

The banana cake was 'meh~~~'. Wasn't too sweet, little banana bits goes well with the cold brew for a hearty light high tea for $10.

Food Bites #4

Food Bites #4

Omg.hahaha so totally long did i ever had a post under this section already! Anyway. I went with B to Illuma's Benten Cafe and had a go at their dishes. I tried something that would make anyone salivate. xD

Teriyaki Chicken & Hamburger Steak @ Benten Cafe
-$13.90SGD

I seriously need to take my hat off this one. Basically, its teriyaki chicken and a 'beef + pork' hamburger patty on a hot plate. With fries, corns and broccoli. It tops up with either 3 sauces of your choice. Beef steak sauce, Curry sauce or Black pepper sauce. Top up a dollar for a quirky curry puff shaped rice.

My Comments: Personally, I think both the meat is really well done. The steak juice oozed out of the patty as you sink your teeth into this mouth watering combination of minced meat. As for the teriyaki chicken, they used boneless thigh meat, thus the chicken wasn't very tough to chew on but instead tender and sweet!

I took the beef steak sauce. It was good! It goes very well together with both the patty and the chicken. I recommend this sauce out of the 3 choices!

How ever, Im rather disappointed with the quality of rice. It came in hard, and...cold! They used normal rice instead of Japanese rice although being themed as a Japanese restaurant. I did talk to a staff about this. But he said it was "like that." Well, like that then like that then. So i had to eat that terrible rice. Luckily the sauce was good. Managed to swallow the pill with that awesome sauce!

My Advice: I recommend this! However, please remember to bring your own bowl of rice. And if possible, try avoid being served by this guy called "Wilson". He does not speak nor understand English, barely understands Chinese, has bad breath and he can't serve hot plates for nuts. Go F yourself. Thanks.

Food Bites #3

Food Bites #3

I went to pastamania to eat e other day. Again. Ha. I ordered the Carbonara e other day. Manage to take a pic so i shall Food Bite it =)

Carbonara @ Pastamania
-$11.20SGD

Turkey bacon, egg and parmesan cheese in creamy-based sauce. Fusilli pasta used. It has an astounding rich, creamy aroma which will many stomach growl.

My Comments: Personally, I find the cream-base to thick and easy to get sick of. I found it quite appetising before I ate and after the first few mouths. But after eating half a plate, I got quite sick of it.

I tried Fusilli so that i would not eat too much of the cream as compared to using Spaghetti or Linguine. But I still lost my appetite anyway.

The turkey bacon is too salty. Does not go really well with the cream. It will be a mixture of rich, salty, creamy, cheesy all in ur mouth...it'll turn any stomach around.

Moreover, on top of that, its one of the most expensive pastas in the restaurant. Making the price quite hefty for this dish.

My Advice: Cream-base haters, do NOT try this dish.

My Rates: 2.0/5.0 ( Oh c'mon, I've had enough. First and the last.)

Food Bites #2

Food Bites #2

I found out this muffin store at my workplace. Managed to took a snap of it so I shall food bite it =)

(Left)Banana Choco Chip Muffin/(Right)Double Choc Chip Muffin
from Love Bite @ UBI TechPark, Lobby A
-Ranging $0.90SGD to $1.30SGD

My Comments: They have a series of Muffins freshly baked from the oven. Although the price might be abit hefty, it is worth the price.

The muffins have generous fillings depending on what type of muffin you choose. It isn't too sweet. It does not go hard after a period of time too. It will still retain its soft and puffy texture which provides delight in every bite.

Their packaging is the traditional sandwich bag which, in my opinion, is rather neat-looking, so you could easy bring it to-and-from the workplace without having the fear that you're carrying an ugly plastic bag to embarass yourself.

My Recommendations: For Choco lovers, try the Almond Chocolate Muffin. It has a 3cmX2cmX1cm choco cube embedded in the middle of the chocolate muffin. Two Thumbs UP!

Food Bites #1

Food Bites #1

OK i shall try make a food review post/label. I could try to give my honest comments and recommendations. Do pardon me if it sucks..First time trying this. As Vivian asked me to try add a Food Label.

PORK CURRY RAMEN @ AJISEN RAMEN
- $10 SGD(Excluding GST)

Today i shall do on this ramen i ate the other day with beloved. Its actually pork slices(including the 3-layered meat) with a half-egg, some pieces of cabbages and just ramen.

My Comments: Being labeled 2 chilli-worth of spiciness, it isn't spicy at all. At most theres only a tingling sensation at the tongue. Nothing much. Suitable for non-spicy eaters =)

The pork has too much fats in its 3 layers. Much of a turn off to those who are going on diet.

The curry soup base gives a unique touch to this bowl of ramen. It isn't too starchy nor too watery to lose its curry flavour. It has a rich aroma not to strong nor blend, so is its taste.

The quantity of the ramen would be enough to feel any normal tummy.

My Rates: 3.5/5.0 (Worth to eat a slightly larger serving)
